Half-pipe skier and Winter Olympian, Peter Speight is set to launch a public raffle, offering items of his Olympic kit from the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games, in a bid to raise money and awareness for environmental causes Greenpeace and Protect Our Winters UK. The online raffle, hosted via Crowdfunder, also includes a pair of eco-friendly Zeal Optics Sunglasses and sustainable clothing by Bamboo in addition to Team GB kit.

Pete, 25 from Sheffield, says:

I’m lucky enough to do a sport that utilises our environment to the maximum of its capabilities; that’s why I feel a responsibility to help protect it. I believe that real change has to come from ambitious government and corporate policy. There will be a point where the environment is pushed to breaking point, which can only have negative effects for ourselves and the animals who inhabit it.

Reducing plastic seems like such an obvious way of helping to fight this. There has been massive recent progress in reduction in single-use plastic which has a catastrophic effect on our oceans. But I believe there needs to be continued action on the part of the government to back up recent initiatives such as banning plastic straws and the bottle deposit scheme.

All monies raised will go directly to charity, with the proceeds split evenly between Greenpeace and Protect Our Winters UK.

Sandy Trust, Ambassador for Protect Our Winters UK, says:

Having the support of athletes like Pete, helping us to mobilise effective change within the snow sports community is vitally important. The more people we can reach, the greater the opportunity we have to effect real transformation in the battle against climate change. We’re delighted to have Pete’s support.
