Transport is a major force behind climate change and the largest contributor to outdoor sports’ carbon footprint. It’s time to change that. Add your name alongside thousands of others and read the report now.
Getting to the mountains, crags, and trails shouldn't cost the earth. But right now, expensive tickets, unreliable connections, and restrictive gear policies force too many of us into cars and planes. We want to change that.
Dive into our new report to uncover the systemic barriers preventing low-carbon outdoor travel - and the solutions we need to fix the system.

Write to Your MPWe love the outdoors, but our travel habits are costing the earth. Transport is the largest contributor to our community's carbon footprint, yet our current infrastructure makes sustainable travel unrealistic for most of us.
Our Clean Miles campaign is proof that the system is broken, and that it needs to change.
Taking equipment? It’s a struggle:
Bikes, skis, snowboards, surfboards - essential for outdoor travel - are often not accommodated. Space is limited and badly designed. Rules are inconsistent and constantly changing, especially across borders.
Booking a journey is unnecessarily complicated:
Disjointed systems, unclear processes and poor support for equipment turn simple trips into logistical challenges.
Too many places just aren’t reachable:
Outdoor destinations are often poorly connected. Services are infrequent, indirect, or stop short - leaving big “last-mile” gaps.
It’s too expensive:
Public transport by train is often priced higher than driving and flying, making sustainable travel the harder choice.
And it’s not reliable enough:
Missed connections and delays create risk especially when travelling to more remote areas with specialist gear.
This isn’t a niche issue. It’s a system failure. And we're going to address it. Read on below to see what's next for Clean Miles.
We’re turning this momentum into action.
