Empowering Climate Action At Scale: A Carbon Literacy Case Study with

Hermetica Black
Big ideas start small, and solving the climate crisis is no different. We need systemic change, and that doesn’t happen by accident. It starts with a shared understanding. Our Carbon Literacy Training is your catalyst for real climate advocacy.
Recently, we teamed up with one of our long-standing Summit Partners, HermeticaBlack, to deliver our Carbon Literacy Training (CLT). HermeticaBlack works in the energy, sustainability, and infrastructure sector, bringing together deep technical expertise with a practical, delivery-focused mindset. They do not just talk about change; they actually walk the walk. By having 25 staff members complete the training, they have taken a massive step forward in their climate journey.
Here is a look at why they chose to take the training, the standout moments from their sessions, and the impact it is already having on their business.

Why Carbon Literacy Training?

Why did HermeticaBlack decide to roll out Carbon Literacy Training? As a POW UK Summit Partner, a few of their long-standing team members actually completed the training a few years ago. To keep everyone on the same page, it just made sense to bring the rest of the team up to speed.
But beyond that, it's about keeping promises. They've explicitly committed to their clients that all full-time employees will be Carbon Literacy trained, meaning they need to ensure new hires get involved, too. Ultimately, their senior leadership is using this training to make sure their sustainability strategy isn't just a corporate buzzword, but a mindset that’s embedded in their day-to-day culture.

Getting on the Same Page

One of HermeticaBlack’s main goals was getting everyone speaking the same language. As they put it in their feedback:
"We endeavour to embed a common understanding of the current climate; where our impact matters, and how together, we can create systemic change"
To make that happen, the training had to connect every level of the business. They wanted to “create alignment from leadership through to junior staff, ensuring everyone is working towards shared goals with a consistent mindset and able to communicate using the same climate language…”

Overwhelm to Empowerment

Because of the industry they are in, HermeticaBlack’s team already knew a fair bit about climate change. The statistics weren’t a shock, but facing the sheer scale of the global crisis head-on definitely brought on a shared feeling of overwhelm. But that’s where CLT does its thang. The sessions opened the floor for some incredibly honest conversations. With a really diverse team, they dug into how climate change impacts different countries and got into some passionate debates about government policy. By the end of the day, that frustration had shifted into something much more powerful:
"The day ended on a positive note because while the overwhelm remains, we know that any systematic change is in our control and nothing is out of reach for us to begin."

Putting it into Practice

The training isn't just sitting in a notebook; it’s already changing how the team operates. On a personal level, employees are rethinking their daily commutes - opting to walk, cycle, or carpool to cut down on their own emissions.
You can really feel the cultural shift across the company. Hermetica Black shared: "Our sustainability narrative is now stronger than ever and generally the feeling within the company is that people are more motivated to push for change and impact because they see the why and the value more."
Looking at the bigger picture, the company is now mapping out its wider commitments, aiming to roll out a full climate action plan by mid-2026. And to make sure it actually happens? They’re setting up bi-annual check-ins to keep everyone accountable.

Protecting the "Why"

At the end of the day, HermeticaBlack is deeply proud of the sustainable energy projects they work on and the environmentally conscious people they hire. For them, Carbon Literacy Training isn't just a box-ticking exercise; it’s about protecting their core identity as the company grows.
"As we grow in headcount, we take responsibility to ensure our business doesn’t lose our why and purpose which is led from top-down leadership"
